I’ve never been much of a guitar gear guy, but I do have a few go-to items. Here’s what my setup currently looks like (it hasn’t changed in almost 20 years…).

Takamine EF340C Acoustic Electric
My youth pastor sold this guitar to me for $200 WITH a hardshell case back when I graduated high school (2003). That was my graduation present, and I’ve been playing it ever since. I have no complaints about this guitar. It sounds great plugged in and unplugged, and it plays very well for the price.
I tried to find a picture or a listing for this guitar online, but looks like it’s been discontinued.
So here’s a shot of my guitar onstage at my church:

Boss TU-3 Chromatic Tuner Pedal
I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure you’re in tune! I’ve used this tuner pedal for years, and it just works. I usually always run it with it plugged in to power, not using the 9V battery, but that is an option if you need it.
The main thing I like about this tuner pedal is that it can double as a mute for when you are done on stage and you leave your guitar there for the rest of the service. When you step on the tuner to turn it on, the “Output” side is muted.

Taylor Medium Tortoise Shell Picks
I wrote up another post here that goes into detail about why I like Taylor picks… and YES, the picks make a difference! ๐
If you’re just looking to purchase some picks, you can do that here:

Thalia Capo
If you play acoustic guitar for worship…you’re going to need a capo. And you might as well get one that sounds great and looks great! I play and recommend a Thalia Capo. You can read my full review of my Thalia capo here, or you can go straight to Thalia Capos LLC to buy one.

That’s it. That’s all the gear I use.
